Psychiatrists, Therapists and Medication Management

We are starting to see the fruits of our labor in our counseling and psychiatry center. We had a situation whereby a new client had been on the same medications for years and was still depressed, anxious and tearful. It seems like in this age of pharmaceuticals that more and more medications are being thrown at problems, and that this is adding to the original presenting problem.

How are you supposed to know what is working when there are so many ingredients in the mental health cocktail? You can’t. In this case we did the opposite: we started taking the patient off the pills to see what was working, while also keeping a close eye on the patient through therapy and medication management appointments.

Then, once we were able to see what was working we were able to help this patient through proper medication management, function on a level that had been absent for many years.

I believe what made us successful was our team approach. We worked together the clinicians and doctors to treat the patient as a unit and to keep each other in the loop so that the patient got the best care possible.

Imagine my delight when I recently saw the patient…smiling.
